Viva La Vida

We are the world

There comes a time
When we head a certain call
When the world must come together as one
There are people dying
And it's time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all

We can't go on
Pretending day by day
That someone, somewhere will soon make a change
We are all a part of
God's great big family
And the truth, you know love is all we need

We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day
Just you and me..

Plop. There goes another pair of gloves ( into the bin) after a dissection class. Thank goodness for revolution and hence the cheap rubber products we have access to these days.
Leaving the hall with the names of the muscles and ligaments ringing in our ears, we head straight to where else.. the mess of course! Speaking of which, I'm still mystified as to where all the food goes to. I'm always hungry here that sometimes I scare myself thinking about it. lol.

After a few sessions of toiling with nerves and fascia for the past one month, I've developed a new found respect for the human body.

Being given this very chance; studying these miracles up close from a person who was once breathing and living keeps reminding me of the reason I'm here, the reason why most of my books if not all look like academic dumbbells, why there would be a constant need to study late into the night no matter how comfortable the bed looks, why the longest break I would get in the next 5 years would probably not be more than 2 months, why certain important occasions would have to be missed, why classes are from 8 to 5, why patience is a virtue or to err is divine. It all keeps making sense. It all does.

On another note, the past few weeks had been interesting.. eventful to say the least.
Mum and sis came down to Belgaum and it was soooo good to see them!! I had fun showing them around my university and Belgaum town armed with my mediocre sense of direction. Oh yeah! I got to play the host for a change. The tailors here are amazing. I got 4 suits done in a day! Now that's a feat worth recognizing don't you think so? They're back in Malaysia now. My mum and sister i mean.

Exams are next week and we'll be tested on the upper extremities. It's gonna be mind- blowingly interesting ;)

Anastomosis... my love..

It's amazing how fast the week just zooms past me. Before you know it.. it's Monday already. The Half Blood Prince was somewhat disappointing though I've forgotten most of the storyline. It would have been a roller coaster ride for those who have never touched the book. Nevertheless, it WAS a movie and it WAAS Harry Potter so yay!!

These are a few interesting things that I've learned so far..
Just walk away when the auto guy insists on charging more than what you ask for.
Coffee Day is Belgaum's very own Starbucks
Tissues are expensive here!
And so are plastic products. ;)
Avoid wearing white footwear.. or buying them altogether.
Paneer Paratha is the bomb!
There is an interval halfway throughout a movie at the cinemas
And the Indian National Anthem is sung before a movie starts ( at least the one I went to..)
I can find 'Twister' here!
Beans are eaten almost everyday for almost every meal..
Make sure that I bring an umbrella along with me wherever I go..
The pigeons and cats here are huge
We can add sugar to curds.. now why didn't we think of that?!
US pizza delivers to our college!!

Well we're still waiting for the other 50+ students to come. So we're stuck in the interphase of starting the lessons and having an orientation. I'm not complaining though.. knowing that the lecturers will be more serious when the lessons officially start.

The wireless connection is being it's confused self again and I would be really angry if this does not get saved. So I shall just write this much for now.

Toodles!

Lots of love,
Gaya

Reaching for the stars

बेलगाम, इंडिया
१.२० प.म
जवाहरलाल नेहरू मेडिकल कॉलेज, नेहरू नगर

It's been almost two weeks since I arrived in Belgaum, India.
The atmosphere, the environment and of course the people.. everything seems so surreal. The daily chapati's and curds, the mixture of hindi and marathi, the yellow auto's that charge at us whenever we step out of college, the accented lectures, 'Sitamma' the delightful lady who takes care of the juniors floor, the wet mornings, afternoons and evenings, the RAIN that always decide to fall whenever we decide it will not, the salwars and chudidars, the interesting jokes our lecturers share, the queue at the Bank, the ever-helpful seniors and the free wireless in the campus m
akes the 3 hour ( or was it 2?) bus ride from Hubli worthwhile.

The lecturers have introduced the three subjects which we'll be dealing with in the first week itself. Judging from the syllabus, planner and the workload, it's going to be a busy year for me. And I'm gonna make it as interesting as possible. Medicine is tough no doubt but that won't stop me from loving anatomy, physiology and biochemistry. I'm happy and extremely grateful for having the choice to pursue my dream which many don't. I'll make the most of my 5 1/2 years here and the advices both my parents have given me will always be a part of me here.
I love them!

Well.. more about Belgaum in my next post.
I'm starving!
Oooh and by the way,we'll be going out to watch Harry Potter in the one and only cinema Belgaum has to offer in the afternoon ;)
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Little did I know..

Little did I know when this course started... that I would be wishing it could last a little longer.

Little did I know when I was told to learn 3 languages... that I would learn a LOT more than that.

Little did I know when I entered 3-2-A1.. that laughing would keep me up all night.

Little did I know when I left my comfortable bed back at home... that everything else in college would make up for it.

Little did I know when I was hours away from mummy's cooking... that the cafe would be a place I'll be looking forward to go to most of the time.

Little did I know when I came here... that simple things in life would mean a LOT to me.

Little did I know when I saw the planner during the orientation... that I would enjoy kicking a ball around.

It's roughly 3 weeks before I would be leaving to Belgaum. I would, of course, try ( really really hard) to get almost all the things I need at least a week before that. Visa included. Yup. 3 weeks is pretty soon. But a girl's gotta do what girl's gotta do. The time will eventually come anyway, so I'm grateful that I'm aware of it instead of having reality slap the news right across my face.
3 weeks .. 3 months. What's the difference?
I've got to remember that my will and determination is all that matters.
So while I have these.. everything is possible.
And this is what I choose to believe in.

You see.. optimism works for me ;)

LiLo, Pepana and BJ

My notorious sidekicks. My breakie, lunch, dinner and every meal in between those buddies. My laughter buddies. My late night movie buddies. My late night buddies. ( me being the first to surrender to bed ;) ) My very own three musketeers. My bug bowlers. My junk chompers. My bed invaders. My foo fighters. My joke don't get-ers. My prison break fans. My yackers. My budding chefs. My hugging poles. My dancing queens... MY babies... I love u three so much!

If I were to tell you that I knew something was off that day.. I would be lying. I was completely deluded. The idea of having that three leave me behind to shop at Sunway Pyramid on the eve of my birthday was implausible. But that was exactly what they did to me. I did a take by putting on my best puppy face before shutting the door behind me.. but to no avail. There were no sympathy texts from any of that three during the next few agonising hours. Yup miserable aren't I. Ow only if I knew that I would end up looking like a Christmas ghost on my birthday hours later...

But the point is you three came back.. staying out as late as possible in Giant. And being in the same clothes since that morning. Thank you sweeethearts!

Oh yea speaking of sweets, the repair guys just left their tools outside our apartment. (don't ask me how I got that two related). I waited for almost an hour. None of them came back. So LiLo like I said we'll be pipeless and lightless for another few days. Arrgh.

But we shall not give up. Light and pipe.. here we come.

The Climb
I can almost see it,
The dream I'm dreaming, but,
There's a voice inside my head saying
You'll never reach it.
Every step I'm tking,
Every move I make feels,
Lost with no direction,
My faith is shaking,
But I gotta keep trying,
Gotta keep my head held high,
There's always gonna be another mountain,
I'm always gonna wanna make it move,
Always gonna be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose.
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side.
It's the climb..

Gappie Hour =)

I've been chomping down food like a blender these past few days. Now that I'm back home, my appetite has swelled up to twice its original capacity.Guess I missed amma's cooking. Or maybe it's just my system's way of telling me that I've got to gain weight. Either way.. who cares? Food is elementary. Just like air. Now, when we breathe, is it wrong to inhale more than what we're suppose to inhale? How much are we suppose to inhale anyway? Does it matter? Now that's something worth pondering about, don't you think so?

So as I ramble about things not worth rambling about, I came across a few interesting facts that might be useful to some people I know ;) Did you know that :

-Human thigh bones are stronger than concrete?

-Coca- cola would be green if colouring weren't added to it?

-Slugs have four noses?

-Beetles taste like apples, wasps like pine nuts and worms like fried bacon?

-In 1386, a pig in France was executed by public hanging for the murder of a child?
( so what about those who loved bacons huh?Gosh seriously.. aren't we a bunch of funny people)

-Most lipsticks contain fish scales?

-The fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth is called Arachibutyrophobia?

- a group of crows is called a murder?

Well. Neither do I. Except for the part about the lipstick. I've heard of that before but I thought it would be nice to include that too. I mean, everyone is rushing to find out who LiLo is going out with, when JT would be coming down to have a concert and a million other things about someone who doesn't even care what your first name is but very few take notice of how strong their thigh bones are. Sad. Sorry for being a party-pooper. But that's reality isn't it?

I should really take some time to learn things that actually mean something to me. Things like my dog and why he goes berserk everytime the recycling guy does his 'surat khabar lama' routine, the shrubs at the back of my house, the stuffs that go into iko biscuits ( I love them ;) ) and well, you get the hint.

I know that I won't regret it.

Toodles,
Gappie

Step it Up!

So this post is to make up for the past 4 or more weeks that I remained idle... not that I was laying back with both my feet up in my room of course. I was so extremely kannadishly busy.

Just after the futsal championship, we had to prepare for our sports day. I'm proud to admit that I did manage to stick to my resolution this time. I jogged more compared to the last FESKOTT. I decided that looking like a half dead chicken when I reach the finishing line again this time was NOT COOL. Word.

And guess what?! I even visited the gym in Subang. Or was it in KL? Oh well.. who cares ? The point is that I went to the GYM! All thanks to my dear cuzzie, Suba akka who happened to have a free pass for the 'Fitness First' centre she goes to. (Note to self : Ask her where exactly it is).

Well, actually I'll be sitting for my Kannada test tomorrow; the one that I missed a few weeks ago. And since I have nothing much to say apart from the fact that my stomach hurts so much from laughing too hard in my apartment, I shall practise my kannada here. Oh yea by the way, speaking of laughing, Chenies has a new nickname.. Lim Lotion. And since I've revealed hers, it is only fair that I reveal the names of my other two mobs.. B.J and Peepana. ( Peepana or Pepana; we haven't decided on that yet). And as for mua.. I'm Gapple!!

Ok now for my Kannada :-)
kai beralu, kannu gudde, kannu reppe, hrudaya, reppe gudalu, mughu, baayi, naalige, hallu, kivi, kivi tamate, hubbu, davade.. these are body parts
Jana, Dana, Kamala, pada, padara, Iiga, gaja, aane,yama.. these are words using simple consonants.

Nanu Gayathri. Nanna Ippadu varsha. Nanna phone number **********. Nanna vilasa KTT, Sepang .
Vyanthanagalu.

Cheers,
Gapples!
